How to get a station near you

Explore Bike Share is continually looking for opportunities to bring bike share to new locations and new neighborhoods. If you want to suggest a location that you think would be great for an EBS station, please email us at info@explorebikeshare.com and we will be happy to take a look.

If you represent a business, agency, neighborhood district, or other entity that can help fund a station, please contact Trey Moore at tmoore@explorebikeshare.com.  Sponsorship or promotional benefits many be available in exchange for your support of station expansion.

We consider a variety of factors when evaluating new stations, including:

Location

  • Is it convenient to other stations in our current service area?
  • Is there enough potential rider demand nearby?
  • Does the location help residents in historically underserved communities access transportation or recreation?

Destinations

  • Is there a variety of destinations nearby, like housing, offices, retail, etc.?
  • Is there significant foot traffic?
  • Are there popular destinations for residents, employees, and visitors?
  • Are there parking or access issues that bike share can improve?

Connectivity

  • Are there on-street bike lanes and/or multi-use trails?
  • If not, are these types of bikeways planned?
  • Is there a transit center or frequent bus line with high ridership?
  • What are the speeds and amount of traffic on adjacent streets?

Site characteristics

  • Is the location on public or private property?
  • Would the station obstruct pedestrians or violate ADA regulations?
  • Is there enough space and level ground?
  • Is there clear southern exposure to allow for solar power?

Funding

Bike share is an amenity for all and operates through a public/private/nonprofit partnership. Explore Bike Share is a 501(c)3 charitable organization, and stations require significant capital investment and annual funds for ongoing operations and maintenance.

Funds for new stations can come from a variety of sources:

  • Corporate sponsorship
  • Government grants
  • Community Improvement Districts
  • Philanthropic donations
  • Foundation grants
  • TIF districts and other development incentives
