Bike share is a revolution on two wheels, and we’re looking for revolutionaries to serve as our Bike + Scooter Technicians. Explore Bike Share is a 501(c)(3) organization with approximately 600 bikes and 60 stations, growing to 900 bikes and 90 stations within the next year. Stations are currently located in Downtown, Midtown, South Memphis, and Orange Mound, providing equitable access to transit throughout Memphis’ central loop.

Bike Technician

Explore Bike Share is hiring dedicated maintenance technicians to join our team. Our technician crew is critical to our ongoing success and represents Explore Bike Share throughout the city. Ideal candidates will have both customer service and mechanical skills to go along with their positive attitudes.

• Maintain bike fleet, including assembly, inspections, and basic repairs
• Operate and maintain company vans
• Move bikes among stations to balance the system
• Interact with customers by phone and in-person
• Install and remove stations
• Maintain stations (troubleshooting, replacing parts, batteries)
• Set up and present at bike share events
• Perform other duties as needed

• Minimum age is 21 (in order to operate commercial vehicle)
• Basic bike mechanic experience preferred
• Proven technical and mechanical aptitude, innovation and critical thinking
• Availability to work some evenings and weekends, as needed
• Valid driver’s license and a clear driving record
• Ability to ride a bicycle in an urban environment
• Knowledge of Memphis streets and geography
• Requires bending, stooping, lifting up to 75 lbs

This is a permanent, part-time position requiring 16-30 hours per week, with the possibility of full-time employment as business demands. Compensation starts at $15 per hour and will be commensurate with experience.

Scooter Technician

Explore Bike Share is seeking a part-time scooter technician to maintain OjO electric-powered scooters, including loading and unloading scooters, changing batteries, performing standard safety checks and minor repairs to ensure safety, and rebalancing the fleet for maximum availability.

The ideal candidate will possess excellent mechanical skills, great attention to detail, and a positive can-do attitude. They will demonstrate a proficiency for using advanced computer diagnostic equipment to troubleshoot issues, and will maintain well-organized records. Scooter technicians must have a strong knowledge of our product and operating systems to interact with customers and represent the company with excellent customer service skills in the field.

In general, one day will be spent rebalancing the system and the next day will be focused on swapping out batteries. Yet, every day will bring new challenges that require a flexible and priority-minded skill set.


  • High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s degree or vocational/trade school certification preferred
  • Valid driver's license with clear driving record
  • Ability to ride an e-scooter and bicycle with ease
  • Ability to navigate Memphis streets and neighborhoods with confidence
  • Ability to lift 50 to 75 lbs. and load/unload heavy equipment
  • Proven mechanical expertise

This is a part-time position with an hourly wage of $12.00 per hour for a two-day, 16 hour work week. The position is available immediately and reports to the Scooter Fleet Manager. Three schedules are currently available:

-   Monday and Tuesday / 8:30am-4:30pm
-   Thursday and Friday / 8:30am-4:30pm
-   Saturday & Sunday / 8:30am-4:30pm
